are all these ambient features also in wanderer?
Maybe it's possible to take inspiration from ambient to improve wanderer

I like the features that can be seen from the screen shared by another user

Posted 2 months ago@serk118uk - Why waste time porting Ambient to AROS ,Instead port mui5 or improve Wanderer, I like Wanderer as base and use Dopus5, btw what advantages Ambient has over wanderer?
I have learned recently it is more configurable including context menu like on magellan
so it is somewhere between wanderer/workbench and magellan

@terminills -@cdimauro - First Zune need to be completed and be 100% MUI-compatible.
Absolutely false. Ambient could be ported by fixing the missing gaps it needs. Not making Zune 100% MUI- Compatible.
it's about 6-8 functions tbh.
Have you tried it (porting it)?
I've had it running ... as I stated here I got bored with it.
Then why don't release it?

however it doesn't take a rocket surgeon ;D to realize Ambient does not use 100% of the functions of MUI
Ambient is very complex and complete, so it might have used (it and its tools).
Anyway, good that someone has already checked it. Now... release it, even if not yet complete, and you'll make happy the MorphOS aficionados. ;-)

The video card has nothing to do with the AI's short-term memory.
This means that either you're using a commercial LLM (which has a long context. So you don't perceive any problematic with your projects) or you don't know of what you're talking about (since using local LLMs restricts a lot their context, due to the much limited available VRAM).

Even at the height of the discussion, if you make a mistake when asking for something, it misinterprets you and deletes everything; then, if you continue, it no longer remembers anything it was doing—basically, you have to remind it of everything yourself, but it’s like starting from scratch.
Those issues might happen, but it's not set in the stone that they'll always happen.
Again, it depends on many variables.

You should try creating AI software to see for yourself it seems easy, but it isn’t.
I've Copilot at work where I can use any model that I like, and... I use it (only for projects for the company). It's a piece of charm, especially when I used Claude (the best for coding. Seriously).
At home I've a 1050Ti with only 4GB VRAM (in reality I've the gaming PC with a 3060Ti, but it's almost always used by sons), so I'm very limited (I'm looking forward to get a card with at least 16GB. But they are very expensive in this period), and I only do small things.

@AMIGASYSTEM
Are you using local coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode) from Windows or Linux or are you working with free "chat based" tools like ChatGPT or Gemini?

@AMIGASYSTEM -@cdimauro - With AIs it's much easier to spot bugs in the code, and fix them. And even non developers are creating tools, so there's plenty that could be improved on any preferred desktop manager.
Wanderer recalls the past, but it can't be too much complicated, otherwise it wouldn't fit anymore on a ROM for the 68k and requires an external (disk) dependency.
It’s not that simple. AI allows even non-developers to create software; I myself have already created about ten programs. But it’s not for everyone—you need to be an expert in various operating systems.
That's granted: you should at least be able to check & test the output.

While I.A. generates code, it very often mixes in code from other platforms, such as Linux strings or commands, or code from OS4 and OS3. I.A. has a very short memory, so you always have to check and remind it which system you’re working on. If you compile natively, you’ll often run into these issues.
The short memory usually comes from local execution, and this requires quite expensive cards nowadays.
Paid coding agents have much longer contexts, but they aren't cheap, at least for coding purposes (they burn too many tokens).

It doesn't fit in rom ... that's the precise reason workbook was created to implement the minimal romable desktop.

Posted 2 months ago@deadwood - Totally doable.
Probably 2-3 weeks of burning AI tokens would be needed to add the few missing pieces to Zune by someone who knows how to work with AI.
Then it's a matter of taste of course. I personally prefer Wanderer style to Ambients.
About 3 days to fill in the MUI gaps and you're about right on the debugging. took me about 6 days to get it booting before I lost interest as I would much rather see wanderer updated

@AMIGASYSTEM - I agree, I also prefer Wanderer. It’s convenient to have all the preferences and settings separate, which makes them easier to manage and, above all, helps me figure out more easily when something isn’t working.
I understand everyone has their own set of preferences, ones prefer dopus 5, you clearly don't, some prefer scalps, you obviously don't, I talked about ambient because imo more software is better than appeasing to the tastes of a few. The way ambient is integrated is thought through and through, it might make some morphos users feel right at home, and might improve aros Zune on the process to accommodate whatever ambient needs as it's mui classes on Zune. But it's not a be all end all type of solution, but since it is open source and from a similar minded OS I thought it made sense.

Posted 2 months agoI like Wanderer. But I'm all for someone porting Ambient as well! As has already been mentioned, that would definitely lead to fixes for Zune, and everyone would benefit from that, not just Ambient users

Ambient has the Scalos style; as I’ve said, I don’t like it, precisely because it integrates all preferences and configurations into a single file – which means that if just one component fails to work, the whole thing crashes.
I prefer Wandere, which follows the Amiga philosophy; back in the day, as well as being cutting-edge and modern, it was also intuitive and easy to learn, even for those with little experience.

Posted 2 months agoMy post was necessary. Thanks to it, I learned about user preferences ;-)
For my part, I can only add that Wanderer captures the atmosphere of retro operating systems well, while Ambient is "almost" modern.
