What kind of error did you get with USB2.0? Did you use option TEST A or TEST B with USB2.0?

I have to burn the ISO and try it on an eighth-generation i5, but it might be too recent. I tried to boot from a USB stick where the second-to-last released build was installed, but nothing.

For the moment I have disabled Secure Boot from BIOS and enabled legacy mode. I had the stick with AROS and the penultimate ISO, I had done an installation as usual on HDD, it does not work on the other computer I have, it works to boot on USB 2.

Thanks for the tests. Please list the exact computer model/motherboard model you tested on and desribe if:
- TEST A option works on this computer
- TEST B option works on this computer

"eighth-generation i5" it too general - it only describes the CPU used but there can be multiple chipset and chips configurations running this CPU and they can have different behavior under AROS.

Also my list shows that you own HP Z400. Does the latest build boot on this machine in TEST B mode (using USB3)?

the laptop is hp elitebook 830 G5 I prepared the USB stick on an X86_64 system, it doesn't boot, on the HP Z400 it works but I have USB 2 ports, the USB 3 ports do not boot but are recognized, I bought an additional USB 3 card

On the hp elitebook 830 G5:

- What happens when you use TEST A? Do you see "cat's eyes' (waiting for bootable media)?
- What happens when you use TEST B? Do you see "cat's eyes'?

On HP Z400:

- What happens when you use TEST B? Do you see "cat's eyes'?
- Is the additional USB3 detected and does booting option TEST B work from ports attached to that card?

I can no longer boot from the USB stick; it doesn’t appear in the menu. Yesterday I had to try several times before the USB stick was recognised. The previous build didn’t have this problem; now I’m not sure if it’s down to my PC:

Question: I’m using VMware on a PC with USB 2.0 ports to install the build. Does the USB 3.0 flash drive have to be connected to a USB 3.0 port (configured in VMware), or can it be connected to a USB 1.1 or 2.0 port?

Another question: can the build also be installed on a USB 2.0 flash drive?

Salvo, file doesn't work like that; you don't need to burn it to a USB stick, but you must install it onto a USB 3.0 stick using an AROS system (including a virtual machine) with a USB 3.0 port.

Yes, the builds don't need USB3 sticks. I'm actually testing them with USB2 sticks. Also in VMWARE it does not matter (unless there is a bug! but noone reported so far) whether you configure USB2 chipset or USB3 chipset - you can write to either USB2 stick or USB3 stick.

The configuration that I personaly use for writting to pendrive is:
VirtualBox with USB3 chipset configured + USB2 stick.

Note: I have not tested VMWARE much. There may be a bug in there - see if you get more stable "InstallAROS to stick" with USB2 chipset configured in VMWARE.

With regards to first part of your question:
- if your BIOS is not showing stick on bootable media screen then either your stick is broken or AROS did install correctly.
- if you can select stick in BIOS menu, GRUB loads and you get issues after selecting one of the configurations, then it's a problem with AROS itself.

Are you talking about HP EliteBook 830 G5?
Did this guru happen when booting from CDROM or pendrive?
Did AROS ever worked on this computer? If yes, which version of AROS worked.

It works, I tried another USB 3 port, the one on my left. I don't have USB 2 ports. Maybe the 3.0 are USB 2 compatible, I have to try.

I have to take the computer back to the technician, it doesn't work anymore, it won't turn on. Anyway, the tethering worked no.

As for the USB 3.0 flash drives, they aren’t faulty; I bought one new specifically for this test.

I tried using VirtualBox and things didn’t change much:

VirtualBox with USB 3.0 chipset configured + USB 2.0 flash drive tested on an HP ENVY 15-k112nl
- The flash drive appears in the menu
- TEST A = After Grub, the cat’s eyes appear; if you press the laptop’s power button, the guru shown in the screenshot posted above appears
- TEST B = AROS boots correctly (wireless mouse does not work)
- TEST C = AROS boots correctly (wireless mouse does not work)

Same behaviour as VMware; USB 3.0 flash drives rarely appear in the menu

Note that Wipe does not work in VirtualBox and VMware if the flash drive is formatted as FAT32
In practice, after using Wipe, the flash drive remains formatted as FAT32.

To get Wipe to work with InstallAROS, you must first use Windows and perform the Wipe using a partition management programme
